Onstage Events Presents
Retribution Gospel Choir
Featuring
Alan Sparkhawk of LOW
with THE BLOODY MUSHROOMS and more TBA
Retribution Gospel Choir debuted in 2005 as primarily a live enterprise spearheaded by two seminal masters of spare, quiet indie rock, Low's Alan Sparhawk and Mark Kozelek of the Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon. A series of enthusiastically received tours found the two guitarists reveling in the opportunity to rock out far more than they ever did their main bands, unleashing sludgy, classic rock-infused riffage and squalling simultaneous solos, and covering of the likes of Neil Young and the Rolling Stones. By the time the group got around to releasing their self-titled debut in March of 2008, following and reprising material from a pair of looser, jammier tour EPs, they'd shrunk from a quartet to a trio, including two out of three members of Low (Sparhawk and bassist Matt Livingston) along with drummer Eric Pollard of Duluth band No Wait Wait. Kozelek, though no longer a member of the group, served as producer for the album and released on his own Caldo Verde imprint.

DAYS OF THE NEW
with Witness The Fall :: Hindsight ::
38 Caliber Hero :: Fan To Flame
Alternative / Indie Rock: By the late '90s, a whole new generation had missed out on experiencing the likes of Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Nirvana first-hand (with some perhaps not even knowing of their existence at all), so a new crop of similarly styled bands picked up the slack, including Days of the New. Originally hailing from Charlestown, IN, before relocating to Louisville, KY, the group's leader from the get-go was singer/guitarist/songwriter Travis Meeks.R.E.M. producer Scott Litt, who signed the group to his newly formed label, Outpost, and oversaw the group's self-titled 1997 release. The album was an immediate hit with the MTV crowd on the strength of such singles as "Touch, Peel and Stand" and "The Down Town," and the group spent the summer of 1998 opening up for another one of their musical heroes, Metallica. But during the tour, rumors of an impending breakup circulated (which) proved to be true. 1999 saw the release of Days of the New's sophomore release. 2000 saw Meeks cover the Doors classic "The End" with the surviving Doors members for a taping of VH1's Storytellers series (as well as recording a studio version that appeared on the Doors tribute disc Stoned Immaculate: The Music of the Doors), as he continued writing for the third Days of the New album, with their leader now letting elements of prog rock seep into the music. ~ ~ Adapted from SITE

FELIX DA HOUSECAT
Electronica / Indie:
“This is my electronic pop record,” preens Felix Da Housecat, midway through a world tour to promote his latest album He Was King. “Whereas Kittenz & The Glitz was straight up electro, He Was King is straight Felix Da Housecat pop with a nice electronic feel.” Packed with club smashes like ‘KickDrum' and future synth-pop classics such as ‘We All Wanna Be Prince' and ‘Spank You Very Much', his tenth album is arguably his most concise, complete work since Kittenz & The Glitz ripped up the electro rulebook back in 2001. He Was King is a title that leaves nothing to the imagination – and the record inside is a stately sixty-minute adventure in electro-stereo. “This is my ‘Parade' or my ‘1999',” he giggles. “When I heard ‘Parade' I was like ‘maaaan! It was like Prince but a different kind of Prince. And this time, the record is more campy. I went back to the silliness. I wanted this to be more fun.” ~ Adapted from MySpace.com/FelixDaHousecat |

ONSTAGE EVENTS PRESENTS :: NEW ORLEANS APPRECIATION NIGHT!
featuring Legendary Member of THE METERS and THE NEVILLES

|
GEORGE PORTER JR. AND RUNNIN PARDNERS! with Guests TBA
Few Bass Players in the history of Modern New Orleans Music are as storied as George Porter Jr. During the course of a career spanning four decades, Porter has not only made a deep impression with his work in THE METERS but has notched sessions with artists as diverse as Paul McCartney, David Byrne, Jimmy Buffet, Patti Labelle, Robbie Robertson and Tori Amos. Early in his career Porter worked with Seminal New Orleans Artists like Allan Toussaint, Earl King, Lee Dorsey and Johnny Adams. Back in 1965 Porter joined THE METERS, considered by most to be the ultimate fusion of Rock, Funk and R&B, and gained recognition as one of the scene's Elite Bass Players.
This will be a night you will not want to miss as The Meridian (Now WIRED LIVE) reaches out to show its appreciation to our neighbors to the east. We will have Free Red Beans and Rice and other goodies and just a general overall atmosphere of New Orleans fun.
As we say Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!

For the last 8 months, she has continued to fight – enduring numerous surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, a bone marrow harvest and transplant, tests and hospital stays. January 22, 2010, Layla’s doctors discovered a new tumor invading Layla’s one functioning kidney. They have told her parents to prepare themselves for their last few months with Layla. Financial struggles should be the last thing on a parents’ mind at a time like this. All proceeds from ROCK FOR LAYLA will help alleviate the medical bills that have been accumulated throughout Layla’s treatment.

Indie / Electro-Pop: Miike Snow is an indie electro-pop trio comprised of writer/producers Chris Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg, and Andrew Wyatt that debuted in 2009 on the label Downtown Records. Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Karlsson and Winnberg are best known as the production duo Bloodshy & Avant. As such they worked with a range of international pop stars during the early 2000s, including Britney Spears, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and Ms. Dynamite. Most notably, their production of Spears' 2004 chart-topping smash hit "Toxic" won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2005. Based in New York City, Wyatt is a writer/producer who formerly collaborated in the groups Black Beetle and the A.M. with Joan Wasser and Michael Tighe, respectively. He's also an in-house producer for Downtown Records (Spank Rock, Amanda Blank) and a member of the band Fires of Rome, which made its full-length album debut with You Kingdom You (2009). Founded in 2007, Miike Snow brought the talents of the three together in one group, and the commercial debut single "Animal" was released on Downtown Records in 2009.

ONSTAGE EVENTS PRESENTS
Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award Winner
BOOKER T with JJ GREY
Blues: Hammond B3 alchemist Booker T Jones is one America's most prolific, distinguished and instantly recognizable musical forces, and the arrival of his new Anti- album, "Potato Hole," not only re-affirms his greatness, it also re-introduces the neglected all-instrumental format to a noisy, crowded marketplace crying out for precisely the type of soul satisfying pleasure which Jones excels at. Born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 12 1944, Jones' interest in music manifested itself early, and as a child he both sang gospel in church and received classical training on the piano. A fascination with the Hammond B3 grew to the point where he funded his own organ lessons with newspaper route money and by his teens, Jones found himself at Stax Records, first as an underfoot hanger-on and soon on staff, as leader of the house band. Backing fabled stars like Rufus and Carla Thomas, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and Eddie Floyd both in the studio and on the road, the teenager's multi-instrumental prowess--on keys, brass and reeds--was impressive. With his Memphis Group cohorts Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn and Al Jackson, Jones laid out the blueprint for the fabled Stax sound and reaped his own rewards with a string of hits that frequently crossed over to the pop charts. Jones post-Stax resume has been equally impressive, recording with everyone from Bobby Darin to John Lee Hooker and producing for numerous artists (including Bill Withers' signature "Ain't No Sunshine" album and Willie Nelson's 1978 multi-platinum blockbuster "Stardust"). Jones and the MGs re-formed to serve as house band for the famed 1991 Bob Dylan tribute at Madison Square Garden. Along the way, he's also scored numerous films and enjoyed induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.

Even in 2009, the band prove themselves to be unusually innovative and a step ahead of the game, always ready to pursue new ideas and treat themselves and their fans to maximum authenticity. Frontman Mille Petrozza, along with drummer Jürgen 'Ventor' Reil, bassist Christian Giesler and guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö, recorded ten hard-as-nails tracks in the summer of 2008, songs with a persistent and unmistakable message - Kreator are experts when it comes to pure, unadulterated thrash metal. VNV Nation´s inspiration was originally the clash of modern and classical Europe cultures, where mythology and technology live in an uneasy fusion but this has since broadened to encompass a world view. The music ranges from electronic dance music to ballads and classical inspired music. Inspirations are taken from a wide range of styles including contemporary underground club culture, industrial and classical music. The lyrics draw on philosophy, literature, art, politics and different forms of symbolism. VNV Nation does not advocate any ideology. It is a metaphor for expression.

Obituary
with The Weight of Respect
and more
Metal: Possessed and Death may have brought death metal to life, but Obituary brought it to fruition. After releasing some demos as Xecutioner as far back as 1986, the five-man band debuted as Obituary on Roadrunner Records in 1989 with "Slowly We Rot," and in a word, the album was landmark. The previous forays into what would quickly become tagged as death metal — primarily by the above-mentioned bands, Possessed and Death, along with grindcore innovators Repulsion and Napalm Death — were exercises in relentlessness. Obituary, on the other hand, varied their tempo considerably — and did so at the absolute height of speed metal nonetheless. Yes, the band could play at breakneck speed, but within the same song, guitarists Allen West and Trevor Peres could slow the tempo down to dirge-like levels in a moment's notice, all the while keeping the music as heavy as hell thanks to down-tuned guitars and the snarling vocals of John Tardy. As a result, Slowly We Rot made quite a splash back in 1989, influencing an entire legion of death metal bands in Florida: Morbid Angel, Deicide, Malevolent Creation, Cannibal Corpse, and numerous others now forgotten among the thousands of international bands that followed.

PRIMAL FEAR with LUNA MORTIS
Power Metal: The European power metal combo Primal Fear has been kicking around the metal underground for years, refining their brand of melodic riffing and soaring vocals. Their sound, highly influenced by Gamma Ray (who has traded members with this band) and Judas Priest, was introduced on their 1998 eponymous debut. The following year showed them gathering a press following when "Jaws of Death" gained them positive reviews from most respectable metal critics. On top of that, their European popularity flourished as power metal enjoyed moderate success in the overseas mainstream. "Nuclear Fire" followed in 2001, leading to their first U.S. appearances in the guise of several large metal festivals throughout the year. They returned to the studio in early 2002, recording and releasing "Black Sun" by the end of spring. | ..:: Admission ::.. Advance: $20 :: Day of Show: $22 :: VIP: $50 | ..:: Times ::.. Signing to Columbia records in 1969, Johnny immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues a prime combination for the legions of fans just discovering the blues via the likes of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Constantly shifting between simple country blues in the vein of Robert Johnson, to all-out electric slide guitar blues-rock, - Johnny has always been one of the most respected singers and guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues-rock and American Southern rock (a la the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd.) Throughout the '70s and '80s, Johnny was the unofficial torch-bearer for the blues, championing and aiding the careers of his idols like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. His recent Grammy nominated "I'm A Bluesman" disc Virgin/EMI, has only added to his Texas-sized reputation. Adapted from JohnnyWinter.net | ..:: Admission ::..
