Ivoryline
Ivoryline

Rock/Indie/Alternative:
Paying dues is an often overlooked aspect of the rock and roll lexicon. Welcome to the world of Ivoryline, where hard work, perseverance and passion are the edicts of life and pave the road they travel. Born into the burgeoning Texas music scene circa 2005, Ivoryline has carved a path of success with tenacity and musical force of will that has made their journey less a road to perdition and more rock-n-roll Utopia. Jeremy provides vocals, while Dusty mans guitars all rounded out with a rhythm section featuring, Wes (drums) and Robert (bass). Passion and intensity have become the buzzwords of an industry in which myopic self pity has become its own brand of conformity. Enter Ivoryline, a band’s whose spiritual integrity bypasses musical wallowing and goes straight for the mainline of your emotional jugular with intensely personal lyrics and dense blasts of guitars. There is no “wink” from Ivoryline informing the listener they are steeped in the apathetic irony governing the charts; at long last a band has arrived that has the guts and the talent to enter a brave new world of sincerity. Ivoryline just gives you life, yours and theirs as a package. The band members’ shared tastes brought them together to explore new territory while their roots remained firmly planted in the roots of rock-n-roll. The music they made stuck to them like an electrical shock and soon what started out as a few shows and penning some songs turned into a full time gig. They knew they were onto something when they were hand selected for the Vans Warped Tour in 2006. The storm grew stronger when the boys caught the ear of executives at mini-major Tooth and Nail Records.

Eagles Of Death Metal
Eagles Of Death Metal

Rock/Hard Rock:
It seems that with each change of season, a member of Queens of the Stone Age is issuing a new album by one of their many side projects, as early 2004 saw the release of the debut full-length by the Eagles of Death Metal, Peace, Love & Death Metal. The group's chief contributors include QOTSA main man Josh Homme (who goes by the alias of Carlo Von Sexron, and handles drums, rather than his usual guitar/vocal duties), and Jesse Hughes (vocals, guitar). Both hail from Palm Desert, California, and bonded as teenagers while playing together on the same local soccer team. After graduation — Homme went on to form the underappreciated Kyuss, before launching Queens of the Stone Age, while Hughes attended the University of South Carolina, and became a journalist. Homme later convinced his old friend to start jamming on music. The Eagles of Death Metal were formed soon after, as the group debuted with a few tracks on Volumes 3-4 of Homme's ongoing Desert Sessions series in 1998. Despite their misleading name, the group's sound was more akin to classic garage rock, with some elements of the Rolling Stones added in for good measure. But the new group was put on the back burner while Homme got Queens of the Stone Age off the ground (interestingly enough, with another high school friend of both his and Hughes, bassist Nick Oliveri). When QOTSA quickly became one of the world's most talked about hard rock bands (due to such exceptional releases as 1998's Queens of the Stone Age, 2000s R, and 2002's Songs for the Deaf), Homme sought to re-launch the Eagles of Death Metal as more than just a one-off project. A buzz surrounding the group began amongst the QOTSA faithful when Homme wore an Eagles of Death Metal t-shirt throughout QOTSA's Lollapalooza road jaunt that summer, while a sneak preview track, "I Only Want You," was mysteriously leaked via mp3 among fans online. With QOTSA taking a breather, Homme and Hughes (with guitarist Timmy VanHamel in tow) then set out on the Eagles' very first tour, as they opened up for Placebo during late November/early December. The group's highly anticipated debut full-length, Peace, Love & Death Metal finally surfaced in March of 2004 issued via Homme's own Rekords Rekords label, and AntAcidAudio (a sister label of Ipecac Records, run by Mike Patton). The group's first European tour followed shortly thereafter, opening for the Distillers. Additionally, Hughes supposedly recorded a solo album, Fabulous Weapons, a year before the recording of Peace, Love & Death Metal. The recording was ultimately shelved, but as reported on the Eagles of Death Metal's website, it may surface as a limited release. Hughes and Homme reconvened in fall 2005 to make the second Eagles of Death Metal album; joined by Jack Black, Brody Dalle, Mark Lanegan and QOTSA's Joey Castillo, they recorded Death by Sexy in eight days. After a brief UK tour late that year, the Eagles of Death Metal toured with the Strokes in spring 2006, leading up to Death by Sexy's release.

Finch
Finch

Rock/Emo:
California-based emo rockers Finch, originally called Numb, include vocalist Nate Barcalow, guitarists Randy Strohmeyer and Alex Linares, bassist Derek Doherty, and drummer Alex Pappas. Strohmeyer actually had a hand in getting the band signed to Drive-Thru Records. The young guitarist contacted the label incessantly, intent on generating interest in his music. His fan mail and pestering even led to friendship of sorts with Drive-Thru owner Richard Reines. So when Strohmeyer inevitably pitched him Finch, he figured Reines was just being polite by listening. But Reines was genuinely enthusiastic about Finch and offered the band a contract. The 2001 four-song EP Falling into Place was the band's first release for Drive-Thru and sold over 6,000 copies in just its first three months of release. That set up the well-received full-length What It Is to Burn, which appeared the following year, produced by Mark Trombino (blink-182, Midtown). Finch immediately hit the road with RX Bandits and spent that summer on the Warped Tour.

Scary Kids Scaring Kids
Scary Kids Scaring Kids

Rock/Indie Rock:
Taking their name from a Cap'n Jazz song, Phoenix sextet Scary Kids Scaring Kids began spewing impassioned post-hardcore that could be both shriekingly spastic and soothingly melodic in the early 2000s. Known for a reckless, incendiary live show, the band originally comprised Tyson Stevens (vocals/bass), DJ Wilson (guitar), Peter Costa (drums), and Chad Crawford (guitar). Wilson later picked up the bass following the addition of guitarist Steve Kirby and keyboardist Pouyan Afkary to the band's ranks. While still seniors in high school, the guys recorded their debut EP, After Dark, with Bob Hoag (Recover, the Format), independently releasing it that June before putting the band on the back burner. An escalating buzz around the band really began to take off, especially after the popular website absolutepunk.net posted their EP online. Next thing bandmembers knew, Scary Kids was back as their first priority with a new deal on Immortal Records. The label reissued After Dark in 2004 folowed by The City Sleeps in Flames. In spring 2006, Justin Salter officially replaced Costa.

Houston Metal Fest PinHed

PinHed:

PinHed hit the Houston metal scene in late 2002, originally a two-piece metal band formed in Rosenberg, TX. Founder Luis Matos had envisioned music that stayed true to the origins of metal but would tap into the darker and more aggressive side of the genre. The band opened for major touring acts like Super Joint Ritual , Devil Driver and Fear Factory to name a few. Going through several musicians through the years Luis eventually rehearsed with drummer Andreas Ramos and a new level of brutally began. With bass guitarist Keo and lead guitarist John Ramos, the lineup was now complete. Headling Houston Metal Fest and playing Texas Metal Fest the bands fan base grew exponentially. Two years after forming and opening for national touring acts around Texas, the band was on a national tour with legendary Mexican death metal band Brujeria, and the brutal grind core/death metal band Cephalic Carnage. Proving that sheer determination and drive would be rewarded, as an unsigned act the band still managed to land several other tours with artists MushroomHead, Asesino, Divine Heresy, Possessed and Sadistic Intent. The band then set out to record their debut album The End of Life. Described as a band that has no genre tapping into several elements from thrash, Black, and Death Metal their sound stands alone.

Spiritualized
Spiritualized

Post-Rock/Experamental/Psychadelic Rock:
Formed from the ashes of the trance-rockers Spacemen 3, singer/guitarist Jason Pierce's group Spiritualized did not break away from his prior band's trademark hypnotic minimalism; instead, they perfected it. Drawing on the continued influence of the Velvet Underground, La Monte Young, and Steve Reich, Spiritualized staked out a common ground between minimalism and lush symphonics — while powered by simple, repetitious motifs, their songs simultaneously blossomed into rich, shimmering sonic panoramas inspired by the majestic studio wizardry of Phil Spector and Brian Wilson. Such seeming contradictions were essential to the group's alchemy. Although Spiritualized fully emerged after the breakup of Spacemen 3, in truth the band's roots extended back to the band's final LP, 1990's Recurring. The first true Spiritualized single, was a dramatic reading of the Troggs' "Anyway That You Want Me." In 1991, Spiritualized returned with a string of EPs — Feel So Sad, Run/I Want You, and Smile/Sway — before their long-awaited debut, Lazer Guided Melodies, finally appeared the following year. In 1995, Spiritualized issued Pure Phase, a heady, dense production which boasted separate mixes from each stereo channel. With 1997's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, Pierce deliberately jettisoned many of the band's usual points of departure, including drones, tremolos, and phase tones; recorded with new drummer Damon Reece, it featured a cameo appearance from legendary New Orleans pianist Dr. John on one track, while Memphis studio legend Jim Dickinson appeared on another. Other guests included the Balanescu Quartet (also featured on Pure Phase), the London Community Gospel Choir, and Spring Heel Jack. The two-disc Royal Albert Hall October 10 1997 live album followed in late 1998. Let It Come Down, which featured an even lusher, more involved sound than Ladies and Gentlemen, was released in mid-2001. The follow-up, 2003's Amazing Grace, was more of a back-to-basics record. Songs in A and E arrived in spring 2008.
