Andy Vargas has only just begun to show the world his talent for composing and singing sweet melodies, soulful lyrics, and captivating grooves with cross-cultural appeal. Currently singing with the Carlos Santana Band, Andy’s style results primarily from the influence of his father, Javier Vargas, as well as Carlos Santana. Exposed to music at the early age of three, Andy began performing with his father’s mariachi band in Watsonville, California by the time that he was only seven years old. Encouraged by his father’s excitement to teach him, Andy quickly saw the powers of deeper communication and expression that music holds. During the past few months Andy has been striving to tailor his music to his own creative convictions. Andy’s music follows in the Santana tradition of combining musical ideas from multiple cultures and genres.

King's X King's X

GENRE:
Few hard rock bands are as widely respected yet criminally overlooked as King's X. The trio (bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick, guitarist/vocalist Ty Tabor, and drummer/vocalist Jerry Gaskill) has an irresistible blend of melodic Beatlesque harmonies, metallic riffing, and prog rock detours. Pinnick first met Gaskill when the duo was touring with the Christian rock outfit Petra, and soon after, met up-and-coming guitarist Tabor. The trio joined forces in 1980 with the Top 40 cover band the Edge and thoroughly played the Missouri bar scene. By 1983, the band had changed its name to Sneak Preview and was now completely focusing on original compositions — resulting in an obscure and very hard to find self-titled debut album released around this time. After the trio moved to Houston, ZZ Top video producer Sam Taylor took the group under his wing, helping it secure a recording contract with New York's Megaforce label in 1987, and suggesting that the band change its name to King's X. In 1988, King's X released their debut album, "Out of the Silent Planet." Despite praise among critics, the public didn't know exactly what to make of the group's original and multiple genre-encompassing style. But with the band's sophomore release, 1989's classic "Gretchen Goes to Nebraska," a buzz began to develop around King's X in the metal community, as members of Anthrax and Living Colour praised them in the press, and MTV aired their anthemic track "Over My Head." The band's third release, "Faith Hope Love," in late 1990, nearly reached gold certification, due to landing a lengthy spot opening on AC/DC's sold-out arena tour in both the States and Europe, while the Beatlesque "It's Love" received major air time on MTV. The end of their relationship with Taylor. appeared to have refueled the group's musical desire, as evidenced by the Brendan O'Brien-produced stellar 1994 release, "Dogman," which performed respectfully on the charts. This success resulted in the band opening shows for Pearl Jam and a show-stopping performance on the opening night of the mammoth Woodstock '94 festival. In 1998 the group signed to the Metal Blade label, issuing two more albums only a year apart — 2000's "Please Come Home...Mr. Bulbous" and 2001's "Manic Moonlight." King's X received a pleasant accolade from their peers when they were voted as one of the "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" on a VH1 TV special. In 2003, they released "Black Like Sunday," a collection of re-recorded songs from early in their career that had previously only existed as demos or bootlegs. Their first concert album, "Live All Over the Place," arrived the following year, followed by their 11th studio recording, "Ogre Tones," in 2005. King's X released "XV" on the InsideOut label in 2008.

Battery
Master Of Metallica

Battery

Metallica Tribute Band:
In 1988, Disaster Area started playing around Toronto, Canada, doing mostly original songs and a few Metallica covers. By 1991, the word spread into the U.S.A. and agents were calling, wanting to bring the band to the U.S., to do a Metallica Tribute. Disaster Area wanted to get into the U.S. to get some exposure for their original material. Disaster Area played mainly original songs, so in an effort to preserve the original band name and original music, another name was chosen for their tribute to Metallica. That name was " BATTERY," taken from the opening track of "Master of Puppets," one of Metallica's best albums ever, and which reflects the heavier side of Metallica. The band at that time consisted of Harvey Lewis, Laurence Langley, Teague Purtell and Kevin Wimberley (who was replaced in April 1992 by Phil M). "BATTERY" toured the U.S. from Maine to California, and from Florida to Minnesota, and their home country of Canada from Quebec City to Vancouver Island. During the Metallica and Guns & Roses Stadium Tour, BATTERY was in the audience at Olympic Stadium in Montreal when James Hetfield was burned by pyrotechnics. One week later in Cleveland, "BATTERY" received a call from Q-Prime Management. They said that "Lars" wanted the rhythm guitar player from "BATTERY" {Harvey Lewis} to fly to Denver, to audition to play rhythm guitar, while James only sang, for the next 4-6 weeks of that tour.

The Box Last night the MC battle held at the Meridian was won hands down by the Rapper "Grinch," formerly of Dope House Records. Grinch came with strong fanbase that supported him throughout the four rounds of competition for the opening act of the ICE CUBE concert. Grinch was the clear winner of the competition, giving a strong, electrifying performance. Over the past 14 years, Grinch has truly paid his dues as a rapper, working during the day as a truck driver (ironically delivering ice) so he has really earned this opportunity.

Fishbone Guitar Center Presents
Fishbone

Reggae/Ska:
Fishbone lives up to their legend as "THE" group to bridge the gap between the funk of George Clinton and the blare of Rush; a hybrid fusion where Led Zeppelin and Sly Stone dance to a frenetic ska beat that fuel's the alternative thrust of acts like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction and No Doubt. Fishbone first gained attention with their unique live concerts, earning a reputation as one of the most original bands in the alternative genre. Their unique stew of different styles, mixed with hectic energy and pounding rhythms, were a huge influence on the funk/rock/metal/rap genre that would become popular in the 1990s. Live audiences around the world have been surrendering to the band's stage flash and magical rhythms with uninterrupted regularity. Such passionate devotion is not lost on Fishbone, who refer to their friends on the road as "The Familyhood." The current line up (Norwood Fisher, Angelo Moore, John Steward, Dre Gipson , Rocky George, and John McKnight) released their 8th record in 20 years, "Still Stuck in Your Throat" on March 27, 2007. This Current lineup has steered Fishbone into a unique Jazzy/Gospel feel that has to be seen live to understand how a band could be considered "jazzy/ska/gospel/punk-rock/reggae" to quote Angelo Moore when asked to describe Fishbone's newest direction. Attention seems to be returning to the band as they appeared on 'Look At All The Love We Found: A Tribute to Sublime' with an amazing and energetic cover of 'Date Rape'. Their version of the song has received airplay on radio stations nation wide across the US and a film clip has been made. They also appear as the house band in Outkast's movie, "Idlewild" as well as a Christina Aguilera video. You can also see them in David Arquette's directorial debut, "The Tripper".

Andy Rourke
Of the Smiths DJ Set

AQndy Rourke

Before joining The Smiths, Andy Rourke had played guitar and bass in various rock bands, as well as in the short lived funk band Freak Party, often with his school friend John Maher. When Marr and Morrissey formed the Smiths, Rourke joined the band after their second gig, and remained with the band almost throughout its existence. Marr claims that Rourke's contribution to The Queen Is Dead LP was "something no other bass player could match". After the break-up of the band, Rourke and Smiths drummer Mike Joyce played with Sinéad O'Connor - Rourke appears on the album "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got." They also, along with Craig Gannon, provided the rhythm section for two singles by former Smiths singer Morrissey - "Interesting Drug" and "The Last of the Famous International Playboys" - and Rourke composed the music for Morrissey's songs "Yes, I Am Blind," "Girl Least Likely To," and "Get Off the Stage." Rourke has also played and recorded with The Pretenders, Killing Joke, Badly Drawn Boy, Aziz Ibrahim (formerly of the Stone Roses), and ex-Oasis guitarist Bonehead as Moondog One, which also includes Mike Joyce and Craig Gannon. Rourke is a DJ on Xfm Manchester, broadcasting new and classic indie anthems on Saturday nights. He is currently in a band called Freebass with bass players Mani (ex-The Stone Roses) and Peter Hook (New Order) and vocalist Gary Briggs. He organised Manchester Vs. Cancer 2007, which took place on March 31st 2007, and has announced the 2008 gig. He has also been playing bass for Ian Brown on his recent tour.

We hail from engineering backgrounds working for various companies, mostly within the energy sector. It’s Houston . What do you expect? So how did we become creators of the biggest (actually, we believe it’s the only one) annual fundraising event to benefit the Houston arm of Toys for Tots? Well, several of us engineering types gathered in October of 2007 at a favorite watering hole and ended up planning a party for the following month so we could invite bunches of engineering folks. In case you don’t know it, engineering types can be quite social. The plans mushroomed (non-engineering term) big-time. In a flash, we had booked a venue and a band. Next thing you knew, one of our engineering folks suggested that we could grow our crowd by offering sponsorship opportunities to benefit Toys for Tots. Engineering types have very big hearts. We contacted John Campbell, “the man” in Houston when it comes to Toys for Tots, and he showed us how to do things the TOT way. With no fundraising experience at all – and after only one month of planning – we held the first event and raised more than $20,000! We had so much fun, and the event was such a fundraising success, we decided to make it an annual effort. This year’s gathering will be even bigger and better. It’s called Engineering Night Out, but remember that engineering folks are very social so you don’t have to be an engineering type to join us and help Toys for Tots.

Misfits
Misfits

Punk:
Although the band has seen several lineup changes throughout the years, the common thread that has kept the Misfits thriving is founding member JERRY ONLY. In addition to a huge catalog of music over the past 30 years, Only and the Misfits have toured relentlessly across the globe and celebrated Halloween 1999 with two Sold Out shows at Madison Square Garden in NYC. In addition to their countless TV appearances world wide, the band appeared in four feature films, as well as a stint in professional wrestling with Ted Turner's WCW. The band's now classic "fiend skull" logo can be found on a plethora of top selling merchandise throughout the world and the collectibility of anything Misfits continues to grow on a daily basis. The Misfits currently remain more aggressive, more topical and more sought after than ever before. Relentlessly led by founding member; Jerry Only (Bass/Vocals) with former Black Flag alum Dez Cadena on guitar and original Misfits drummer Robo still behind the kit, the Misfits continue to sell out shows and draw thousands of fans night after night around the globe. In closing, Only surmises: "The Misfits have been preserved on determination and the sheer will to survive. That determination has been bound by the unequaled loyalty of our fan base of fiends. Our goal is simple, to be the best. In resurrecting this band I risked all that I'd done in the past and I dared to challenge a legacy born in my youth. Today I am stronger, smarter and faster than I have ever been. We plan to continue as always, eclipse the past, block the sun and drag humanity by the throat into a world of darkness filled with ghouls, goblins and creatures of the night, where we are king." One thing is certain, The Misfits are here to stay and once again everyday is Halloween.

Eagles Of Death Metal
Eagles Of Death Metal

Rock/Hard Rock:
It seems that with each change of season, a member of Queens of the Stone Age is issuing a new album by one of their many side projects, as early 2004 saw the release of the debut full-length by the Eagles of Death Metal, Peace, Love & Death Metal. The group's chief contributors include QOTSA main man Josh Homme (who goes by the alias of Carlo Von Sexron, and handles drums, rather than his usual guitar/vocal duties), and Jesse Hughes (vocals, guitar). Both hail from Palm Desert, California, and bonded as teenagers while playing together on the same local soccer team. After graduation — Homme went on to form the underappreciated Kyuss, before launching Queens of the Stone Age, while Hughes attended the University of South Carolina, and became a journalist. Homme later convinced his old friend to start jamming on music. The Eagles of Death Metal were formed soon after, as the group debuted with a few tracks on Volumes 3-4 of Homme's ongoing Desert Sessions series in 1998. Despite their misleading name, the group's sound was more akin to classic garage rock, with some elements of the Rolling Stones added in for good measure. But the new group was put on the back burner while Homme got Queens of the Stone Age off the ground (interestingly enough, with another high school friend of both his and Hughes, bassist Nick Oliveri). When QOTSA quickly became one of the world's most talked about hard rock bands (due to such exceptional releases as 1998's Queens of the Stone Age, 2000s R, and 2002's Songs for the Deaf), Homme sought to re-launch the Eagles of Death Metal as more than just a one-off project. A buzz surrounding the group began amongst the QOTSA faithful when Homme wore an Eagles of Death Metal t-shirt throughout QOTSA's Lollapalooza road jaunt that summer, while a sneak preview track, "I Only Want You," was mysteriously leaked via mp3 among fans online. With QOTSA taking a breather, Homme and Hughes (with guitarist Timmy VanHamel in tow) then set out on the Eagles' very first tour, as they opened up for Placebo during late November/early December. The group's highly anticipated debut full-length, Peace, Love & Death Metal finally surfaced in March of 2004 issued via Homme's own Rekords Rekords label, and AntAcidAudio (a sister label of Ipecac Records, run by Mike Patton). The group's first European tour followed shortly thereafter, opening for the Distillers. Additionally, Hughes supposedly recorded a solo album, Fabulous Weapons, a year before the recording of Peace, Love & Death Metal. The recording was ultimately shelved, but as reported on the Eagles of Death Metal's website, it may surface as a limited release. Hughes and Homme reconvened in fall 2005 to make the second Eagles of Death Metal album; joined by Jack Black, Brody Dalle, Mark Lanegan and QOTSA's Joey Castillo, they recorded Death by Sexy in eight days. After a brief UK tour late that year, the Eagles of Death Metal toured with the Strokes in spring 2006, leading up to Death by Sexy's release.

John Waite

An Intimate Evening With
John Waite
With Special Accoustic Performance By Pale

Pop/Rock:
As a solo artist and as the lead singer of the Babys and Bad English, John Waite was a fixture of album-oriented rock radio stations during the '70s and '80s. Waite had a talent for power ballads and driving arena rock, occasionally touching on new wave-styled power pop, as well. Several of his songs - including "Missing You," the Babys' "Isn't It Time," and Bad English's "When I See You Smile" - became radio staples. John Waite formed the Babys in London, England, in 1976. Initially conceived as a teen pop band, the group earned a record contract based on the strength of a video demo they constructed with producer Mike Mansfield. Chrysalis pushed the band heavily, resulting in "Isn't It Time" becoming a hit in the U.S. and U.K. in 1977. As their career progressed, the group began to experiment with synthesized, new wave-inspired power pop, which resulted in a handful of hits. Waite began his solo career the following year, releasing Ignition on Chrysalis. While the album generated the minor hit "Change," his second album, 1984's No Brakes, became a genuine Top Ten hit on the strength of the number one single "Missing You." While "Missing You" was an international smash, eventually becoming one of the best-remembered songs of the early MTV era, No Brakes produced the Top 40 "Tears."

NAME Plain White T's

Alternative Pop:
As the Plain White T’s learned over the last two years, there’s something unreal about success. One minute you’re sweating your ass off on stage in some dive. The next, your song is 1 and your CD has sold more than a million albums worldwide. One minute you’re listening to “Rubber Soul” on your iPod; the next you’re a Song of the Year nominee at the Grammys and Ringo Starr is saying hi to you. Unreal. Yet staying real is precisely what the Plain White T’s are all about. So on their new Hollywood/Fearless CD, Big Bad World, they passed on the digital bells or whistles. Instead, producer Johnny K pressed the ‘record’ button and the band simply played its heart out.“Our songs in the past had a ‘50’s and ‘60’s influence with classic songwriting structures and harmonies,” says Tom. “This time we decided, rather than punk that out and make it sound modern, we would record as though it could have been done by the Beatles or early Tom Petty. We got to a place where we sounded good live 300 nights a year, so we wanted to capture that.” The Chicago based band, together for a decade, is still on a road of self-discovery. Formed during Tom’s teen years when he saw his life laid out before him at Chicago’s famed Metro club, the band built a steady following over the years and miles. They were invited to the Warped Tour (three times), opened for bands like Jimmy Eat World, and released two indie CDs their 2002 debut, Stop and 2005’s All That We Needed. The band signed with Hollywood Records, releasing Every Second Counts in 2006 and putting “Hey There Delilah” out as a single. The track hit 1 on Billboard and iTunes (becoming one of very few songs ever to log more than 3 million downloads), propelled the CD into a worldwide hit, and earned the band two Grammy nods, Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Rock:
World renowned instrumental rock guitarist Gary Hoey forges new territory as a lead vocalist on his upcoming Surfdog release “AMERICAN MADE” on August 22nd. With 13 instrumental albums under his belt which have spawned several top rock radio hits. Gary proves that his incredible talent goes beyond his fingertips. This album features 12 new tracks including the first single LUNATIC FRINGE. Multi-tasking as writer, producer and guitar player, Hoey has had clients who include DISNEY, ESPN, NO FEAR, performed the National Anthem for the SAN DIEGO PADRES and the BOSTON REDSOX. Hoey’s first break came when Ozzy Osbourne showed up in Boston looking for a guitarist. Osborne liked Hoey’s tape enough to fly him to LA for an audition. In 1993 Gary Hoey launched his career with the hit song "Hocus Pocus." His fiery technique helped to send it to the top 5 on Billboards charts, The Boston raised guitarist covered the tune on his debut album, Animal Instinct (Warner Bros Records), transforming Hoey, a then-struggling player into a cult hero. He followed with the soundtrack to the surf saga Endless Summer II (Warner/Reprise), which cemented his status as a demi-god among surfers. Even Dick Dale, the surf-guitar king gave Hoey his blessing, proclaiming him his favorite modern guitarist.

White Lion White Lion

Pop Rock / Pop Metal:
White Lion initially left it’s mark in the late 80’s with a series of hit singles and video’s that defined the MTV generation, thanks to the likes of “Wait”, “When The Children Cry”, “Tell Me”, “Broken Heart” and “Little Fighter”. But equally the band was recognised for it’s signature album tracks that transcended soci-policital themes such as “Lady Of The Valley”, “Cry For Freedom”, “Lights And Thunder” and “Warsong”. If recent stand out performances alongside some of the biggest names in rock at the Gods Of Metal, Sweden Rock and Rocklahoma festivals isn’t testimony enough, then new album “Return Of The Pride” will surely once again assert White Lion as a legitimate musical force. The first White Lion record in over 16 years , “Return Of The Pride” is put simply, classic rock in it’s truest form and a representation of the musical influences that have attached themselves over time” declares lead singer Mike Tramp. Tramp says of the album’s title: “Return Of The Pride” could be interpreted in many ways. In a musical sense we have taken a step back in time, rather than a step forward in time. Over the course of this album lyrically and musically many concepts and themes have been explored, maybe “Return Of The Pride” means something entirely different”. The band features what is now a truly international line-up of musicians handpicked by Mike himself. “We are not interested in fixing what isn’t broke. Our mission is simple, to bring the classic sound of White Lion to the people across the world that still live for that music”.

Buckethead Buckethead

Avant-Garde/Experamental Rock:
Buckethead is one of the most bizarre and enigmatic figures in American underground and experimental music since Parliament-Funkadelic birthed their bevy of cosmic characters in the mid-'70s. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist best known for his virtuosic command of the electric guitar, Buckethead is one of the instrument's most recognizable contemporary innovators, his rapid-fire riffing, near-robotic fretwork, and idiosyncratic lead lines combining elements of Yngwie Malmsteen, Adrian Belew, Slayer's Kerry King, P-Funk's Eddie Hazel, and avant-improv artist John Zorn's Scud-attack sax abuse. In addition to releases including 1998's Colma, Buckethead has also contributed soundtrack material to such films as Last Action Hero and Street Fighter. Buckethead returned in 1999 with Monsters and Robots, after which he joined the short-lived reformation of Guns N' Roses. A steady stream of releases followed into the 21st century ranging from the contemplative Electric Tears to more electronica/rock hybrid, and collaborations with San Francisco's underground hip-hop scene. In the following decade, he averaged a few releases a year, teaming up with dozens of artists, including Les Claypool, Iggy Pop, and Mike Patton, and in 2008, he collaborated with actor/musician Viggo Mortenson for Pandemonium from American.

Soulfly

Rock/Heavy Metal:
Upon his exit from Sepultura in late 1996, singer/guitarist/songwriter Max Cavalera almost automatically set out to form his next musical endeavor, the ultra-heavy Soulfly. Cavalera put together a band that included Roy "Rata" Mayorga on drums (ex-Thorn) and Jackson Bandeira on second guitar (ex-Chico Science), while former Sepultura roadie Marcello D. Rapp rounded out the quartet on bass. Their self-titled debut album was released in the spring of 1998. Soulfly's second album, Primitive, was released in the fall of 2000. He handled the production for 2002's III, and Soulfly returned again in 2004 with Prophecy. A year later, Roadrunner reissued their self-titled first album as part of the label's 25th anniversary celebration. Soulfly's fifth album, Dark Ages, appeared in October 2005. Continuing his habit of switching up the lineup, Cavalera was backed this time out by bassist Bobby Burns, guitarist Marc Rizzo (ex-Ill Niño), and drummer Joel Nunez, who had previously played on Primitive. In 2007 Cavalera began collaborating with brother and former Sepultura drummer Igor on a project called Cavalera Conspiracy. The duo made its live debut that August as the opening act for Soulfly, and went on to release an album, Inflikted, for Roadrunner in 2008. Soulfly's sixth full-length offering, Conquer, arrived in July 2008.

Polysics
Polysics

Born in 1998, in homage to the high energy and eccentric music of the 1980’s New Wave scene, POLYSICS was founded by members, Hayashi, Kayo, Fumi and Yano. They have since built a huge international fanbase through their hyper-frenetic live shows and their multiple releases in Japan, the US and Europe. Between 1999 and 2001, POLYSICS released four records in Japan; 1st P, A.D.S.R.M., NEU, and ENO. Following that flurry of releases, in 2002 the band released For Young Electric Pop, and 2003’s National P.

Jaguar Love
Jaguar Love

At a recent Jaguar Love show, according to their guitarist, Cody Votolato, two fans were less than impressed with their originality. “I heard this dude in the audience ask his friend, ‘What’s up with this singer? He’s just ripping off Johnny Whitney from The Blood Brothers,’” says Votalato. That’s not surprising, considering that the band’s singer happens to be Johnny Whitney, who, along with Votolato, spent a decade as a founding member of Seattle’s post-hardcore Blood Brothers. The rumor in Seattle, among those who knew of The Blood Brothers’ demise, was that Johnny Whitney had killed the band so he could start a new alt-country project. That was wrong, and this is not that band. Although “Bats Over the Pacific Ocean” and “Georgia” do have a bit of a twang, this is a frantic, glammy, dancey record with visible hardcore roots. There’s no mistaking Whitney’s voice, though, which regularly invites tortured metaphors from critics (a few choice examples: “a child being tortured,” “Robert Plant on steroids,” “Perry Farrell after a sex change.”) Note to the dudes at the bar: There isn’t anyone who can pull off a Johnny Whitney but Mr. Johnny Whitney himself.

The Horrorpops

Psychobilly:
From virtual unknowns to stars of the Warped Tour and stadiums across Europe, HorrorPops have thrived on the strength of great songwriting, remarkable intuition, a jaw-dropping live experience and a willingness to explore an array of styles. Be it new wave, punk, surf, ska, rockabilly, metal or goth, the trio's self-produced, film-centric third Hellcat album, Kiss Kiss Kill Kill, embraces all of the aforementioned rock & roll subgenres with admirable aplomb. Crafting a thrill ride of an album is no easy feat, but Patricia Day (lead vocals/upright bass), Nekroman (lead guitar/vocals) and Niedermeier (drums/vocals) have done so by adhering to instinct. By staying true to their original and diverse musical vision, HorrorPops have flourished, building a tremendously loyal and ever-growing following in the process. While the Denmark-reared, L.A. based HorrorPops' expertly crafted new disc marks a return to the new wave leanings abundant on its widely-cherished 2004 Hell Yeah debut, Kiss Kiss Kill Kill is also a bold song-cycle that balances circle-pit punk and Hot 100 pop with exhilarating results. "We started HorrorPops so that we could play all styles of music," Patricia explains. But after its 2005 rock-based sophomore breakthrough Bring It On!, Day admits, "We really wanted to get back to the classic new wave feel that we love. And I think our excitement about these songs has made a hell of difference."

Butthole Surfers
BHS

Alternative Rock / Underground / Experamental Rock:
Arguably the most infamously named band in the annals of popular music — for years, radio found their moniker unspeakable, and the press deemed it unprintable - Butthole Surfers long reigned among the most twisted and depraved acts ever to bubble up from the American underground. Masters of calculated outrage, the group fused the sicko antics of shock rock with a distinct and chaotic mishmash of avant-garde and Texas psychedelia. It should only stand to reason that any band who would call themselves Butthole Surfers would be masters of irony. But after 15 years and, with "Electriclarryland," now 13 releases, the ultimate irony may be how these twisted purveyors of musical mayhem have become pioneers of the current underground music scene. It's not anything they set out to become. "We weren't really thinking about things too much," says guitarist Paul Leary of the band's genesis. "I think it was to avoid working at a restaurant washing dishes or working at the lumber yard. We did manage to do that." "Electriclarryland" is an even-more dizzying panorama of power chords, musical pranking, conceptual weirdness and all-out rock 'n' roll hysteria than their major label debut, 1993's Independent Worm Saloon (produced by Led Zepplin's John Paul Jones with the alternative rock hit "Who Was In My Room Last Night?" Butthole Surfers were founded in 1981 by Leary and singer Gibby Haynes, who, at the time, were both students at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Haynes had grown up in Dallas (where his father hosted a popular children's TV show), and was a star accounting and economics student. Leary, a native of San Antonio, had been playing guitar since the age of five, and was studying art and finance (in which he almost earned a masters degree). Despite such seemingly straight-laced academic interests, the two were definite square pegs in a round-hole world. They scammed their way onto a Dead Kennedys bill in San Francisco. In early 1983, they added drummer King Coffey whose band the Hugh Beaumont Experience had opened for Buttholes. Their raucous experimentalism and Texan rebelliousness made Buttholes critical favorites.

Gavin DeGraw
Gavin DeGraw

Adult Alternative Pop / Contemporary Singer-Songwriter:
Singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw grew up playing music at home with piano studies beginning at eight and later playing in cover bands with his older brother in upstate New York. After a brief stint studying music at the prestigious Berklee School of Music, DeGraw, who had been writing his own songs since his cover band days, decided to make a go of it as a singer/songwriter in New York City. Upon his arrival in the late '90s, DeGraw made an impression with crowds, and occasionally with journalists, as his name began to pop up in columns and best-of lists. The steady buzz led to offers from major labels, but DeGraw chose to take his time, and let his craft develop and his audience grow. He eventually signed a record deal with Clive Davis and his J Records imprint (home of Santana as well as R&B mainstays Alicia Keys and Angie Stone). DeGraw's debut, Chariot, arrived in the summer of 2003 and, like his early days in New York City, it slowly built momentum and earned the young singer a small but fervent following. By 2004, its first single, "I Don't Wanna Be," had become a Top 40 number one hit, and the album was re-released in a form that augmented the original album with a made-over acoustic version, billed as Chariot — Stripped. DeGraw's next single, "Chariot," was also met with positive response and climbed the charts in 2005. DeGraw's self-titled album Gavin DeGraw was released in 2008.

Portugal The Man
Portugal The Man

Indie Rock/Alternative Pop:
There has to be some credit given at least for this band's name alone — co-founder John Gourley once explained it as an attempt to create a demi-mythic entity bigger than the individual members. Whatever the exact origins of the name, Portugal. The Man itself came together in Alaska in the wake of the initial dissolution of Anatomy of a Ghost, with guitarist/vocalist Gourley and bassist/singer Zach Carothers continuing to work together. Portugal. The Man formed with the addition of keyboardist/singer Wes Hubbard, himself a veteran of other Alaska groups, leading to the three eventually relocating from Alaska to Portland, OR, to record and perform. Their initial existence there was the typical hardscrabble life of a band with few resources having to live day to day, but drummer Jason Sechrist, formerly of Konmai Defense System, joined to form a more stable lineup. Attention grew through word of mouth, given even more widespread reach thanks to the Internet (the band made heavy use of its sites on both MySpace and PureVolume), leading to an initial EP release in 2005 followed by its debut album, Waiter: You Vultures!, in early 2006. The next year Portugal. The Man, who was now a three-piece (Hubbard had left), issued Church Mouth.

The Hotel Cafe Tour

Indie Rock/Singer Songwriter:
Once just a small coffee shop, The Hotel Café has quickly blossomed into not only one of the premier singer/songwriter venues in the United States, but also been labeled “the place that breaks artists.” The artists surrounding The Hotel Café regard it as home, where lyrics, voice and a DIY approach rule. On any given night, you can find well known artists (such as: Weezer, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Death Cab For Cutie, KT Tunstall and many more) on the same bill with up-and-comers, playing both as solo artists and as a communal project, sometimes well rehearsed and sometimes in the heat of the moment, and more often than not, jamming into the wee hours of the morning. For the past 4 years, The Hotel Café has been presenting a tour that has hit every major market in the United States and the UK. The concept of the tour was to share the same community vibe with music fans all over the globe. Artists performed solo and would then share the stage with fellow tour mates. No cookie-cutter corporate American Idols, just real music, written by real artists, surrounded by real friends, who actually have a story to tell. The tour will feature a rotating lineup of at least five artists at every show, all sharing musicians and supporting one another, making for a unique night of music. The tour is held together by performer and co-organizer Cary Brothers, who will be present for the entire tour.

Gym Class Heroes

Gym Class Heroes

Indie Rock/Alternative Rap:
Melding elements of rap, rock, R&B, and funk into one cohesive and melodic sound, upstate New York's Gym Class Heroes had diverse appeal based on their impressive musical dexterity. Often touring with indie rock and pop-punk bands, they didn't fit comfortably into one specific genre; the quartet's music was rooted in traditional hip-hop, but featured live instruments instead of looped samples or beats. Lyrics were often socially conscious, but also incorporated humor and wry perceptiveness. The band's roots date to 1997 in Geneva, NY, when MC Travis "Schleprok" McCoy and drummer Matt McGinley became friends during high-school gym class. Wanting to create a new palette for hip-hop, the duo worked with other musicians before Gym Class Heroes was officially born in 2001 with the addition of guitarist Milo Bonacci and bassist Ryan Giese. The guys self-released For the Kids that same year. Touring nonstop, they recorded The Papercut Chronicles in 2003, which caught the attention of Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz before it was even finished. The Heroes were officially signed to his Fueled by Ramen imprint, Decaydance, by September 2004 at which point Bonacci was replaced by guitarist Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo. The four-song teaser The Papercut EP preceded the eventual February 2005 release of The Papercut Chronicles with Eric Roberts replacing Giese on bass. The quartet hit the road hard, spending spring on dates with Midtown, Fall Out Boy, and the Academy Is..., along with hitting the year's SXSW, Bamboozle, and Warped Tour festivals. They also spent part of the summer opening for ska-punks Streetlight Manifesto. The single "Cupid's Chokehold/Breakfast in America," hit number four on Billboard's Hot 100 and remained in constant rotation on radio and MTV during the spring of 2007.

Spiritualized
Spiritualized

Post-Rock/Experamental/Psychadelic Rock:
Formed from the ashes of the trance-rockers Spacemen 3, singer/guitarist Jason Pierce's group Spiritualized did not break away from his prior band's trademark hypnotic minimalism; instead, they perfected it. Drawing on the continued influence of the Velvet Underground, La Monte Young, and Steve Reich, Spiritualized staked out a common ground between minimalism and lush symphonics — while powered by simple, repetitious motifs, their songs simultaneously blossomed into rich, shimmering sonic panoramas inspired by the majestic studio wizardry of Phil Spector and Brian Wilson. Such seeming contradictions were essential to the group's alchemy. Although Spiritualized fully emerged after the breakup of Spacemen 3, in truth the band's roots extended back to the band's final LP, 1990's Recurring. The first true Spiritualized single, was a dramatic reading of the Troggs' "Anyway That You Want Me." In 1991, Spiritualized returned with a string of EPs — Feel So Sad, Run/I Want You, and Smile/Sway — before their long-awaited debut, Lazer Guided Melodies, finally appeared the following year. In 1995, Spiritualized issued Pure Phase, a heady, dense production which boasted separate mixes from each stereo channel. With 1997's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, Pierce deliberately jettisoned many of the band's usual points of departure, including drones, tremolos, and phase tones; recorded with new drummer Damon Reece, it featured a cameo appearance from legendary New Orleans pianist Dr. John on one track, while Memphis studio legend Jim Dickinson appeared on another. Other guests included the Balanescu Quartet (also featured on Pure Phase), the London Community Gospel Choir, and Spring Heel Jack. The two-disc Royal Albert Hall October 10 1997 live album followed in late 1998. Let It Come Down, which featured an even lusher, more involved sound than Ladies and Gentlemen, was released in mid-2001. The follow-up, 2003's Amazing Grace, was more of a back-to-basics record. Songs in A and E arrived in spring 2008.

Finch
Finch

Rock/Emo:
California-based emo rockers Finch, originally called Numb, include vocalist Nate Barcalow, guitarists Randy Strohmeyer and Alex Linares, bassist Derek Doherty, and drummer Alex Pappas. Strohmeyer actually had a hand in getting the band signed to Drive-Thru Records. The young guitarist contacted the label incessantly, intent on generating interest in his music. His fan mail and pestering even led to friendship of sorts with Drive-Thru owner Richard Reines. So when Strohmeyer inevitably pitched him Finch, he figured Reines was just being polite by listening. But Reines was genuinely enthusiastic about Finch and offered the band a contract. The 2001 four-song EP Falling into Place was the band's first release for Drive-Thru and sold over 6,000 copies in just its first three months of release. That set up the well-received full-length What It Is to Burn, which appeared the following year, produced by Mark Trombino (blink-182, Midtown). Finch immediately hit the road with RX Bandits and spent that summer on the Warped Tour.

Scary Kids Scaring Kids
Scary Kids Scaring Kids

Rock/Indie Rock:
Taking their name from a Cap'n Jazz song, Phoenix sextet Scary Kids Scaring Kids began spewing impassioned post-hardcore that could be both shriekingly spastic and soothingly melodic in the early 2000s. Known for a reckless, incendiary live show, the band originally comprised Tyson Stevens (vocals/bass), DJ Wilson (guitar), Peter Costa (drums), and Chad Crawford (guitar). Wilson later picked up the bass following the addition of guitarist Steve Kirby and keyboardist Pouyan Afkary to the band's ranks. While still seniors in high school, the guys recorded their debut EP, After Dark, with Bob Hoag (Recover, the Format), independently releasing it that June before putting the band on the back burner. An escalating buzz around the band really began to take off, especially after the popular website absolutepunk.net posted their EP online. Next thing bandmembers knew, Scary Kids was back as their first priority with a new deal on Immortal Records. The label reissued After Dark in 2004 folowed by The City Sleeps in Flames. In spring 2006, Justin Salter officially replaced Costa.

Sigh Sigh

Rock/Heavy Metal/Death Metal:
Japan's best-known black metal band, Sigh, has, over the years, also progressed into one of the genre's most experimental and simply unusual bands regardless of whereabouts. Led by bassist/vocalist/keyboardist Mirai Kawashima, the trio formed in 1989, at which point the lineup was rounded out by Satoshi Fujinami on guitar and Kazuki on drums. They took their original inspirations from the raw '80s thrash metal of bands such as Venom, Celtic Frost, and Kreator, meanwhile mixing in horror movie soundtrack atmospheres and keyboards/synthesizer arrangements (they were one of the first so-called black metal bands to heavily use keyboards). After a couple of demos, they recorded their first EP, Requiem for the Fools, in 1992 for the Wild Rags label, with Satoshi doubling on guitar and bass (Kazuki had left by this point). This effort drew the attention of infamous Mayhem guitarist/Norwegian black metal scene figurehead Euronymous, who signed them to his Deathlike Silence Productions imprint for their debut full-length. Entitled Scorn Defeat, this album came out in 1993 after Euronymous' death and was the first Sigh recording to include guitarist Shinichi Ishikawa, with Satoshi moving strictly to drums and percussion.

Rock:
Although guitarist and band mastermind Nuno Bettencourt's style was derived from Eddie Van Halen, his heart is with the progressive hard rock of Queen, as well as Beatlesque pop and touches of lounge jazz. Consequently, Extreme's music is never easy to classify; it's not just heavy metal, hard rock, or pop — their albums cover all of that territory with a sweeping ambition and a social consciousness to match. By the time of their second album, Pornograffitti, Bettencourt was already well-respected in the heavy metal world, but it was the Everly Brothers-style acoustic ballad, "More Than Words," that crossed them over into the mainstream — it hit number one and the follow-up single, the acoustic-based pop rocker "Hole Hearted," hit number four.

Extreme's third album, Extreme III: Three Sides to Every Story, was an over-ambitious follow-up that sold well at first but didn't have the staying power of their previous album. Extreme's fourth album, 1995's Waiting for the Punchline, suffered from a similar lack of sales. The following year, Extreme announced they were breaking up, as Bettencourt went on to launch a solo career — issuing the albums Schizophrenic in 1997, Mourning Widows in 1999, and Furnished Souls for Rent in 2000. Cherone went on to front Van Halen for a lone album, 1998's Van Halen III, which was slammed by both the critics and fans alike, resulting in poor sales and Cherone's eventual exit. 2000 saw the release of a 13-track Extreme best-of collection, An Accidental Collision of Atoms.

Earshot Earshot

Rock/Alternative Metal:
Looking beyond the status quo of the modern rock music of today, EARSHOT’s third studio album, aptly titled “THE SILVER LINING”, marks the start of what some believe is sure to be the beginning of a new and changing modern rock world of tomorrow. No doubt, that in the 48 minutes of listening to the bevy of infectiously memorable tracks, one can only describe this 11 song collection as a very cleverly crafted, re-defined and re-designed approach to their genre with a plethora of sonically raw and defining moments. EARSHOT signed with Warner Brother’s Records in 2001 and in 2002 released their debut album “Letting Go” which yielded their first anthemic singles such as “Get Away” (which peaked at 4 on the charts and stayed in the top 100 for over 60 weeks), and “Not Afraid”. In 2004 the band released their sophomore effort entitled “Two” which bore the bands breakout single “Wait” (9) and their follow up single “Someone.” In early 2005, EARSHOT returned from the road in support of their second release when the panicked state of the recording industry turned its ugly head towards the band. “No one expected another EARSHOT record after that” says vocalist Wil Martin. “We were essentially counted out by many. Our departure from Warner Brothers Records only added to our determination not to let corporate decisions determine our artistic and creative voice. After all, THAT’s what rock music is really all about…believing in yourself, overcoming adversity and taking that chance when the odds are against you.” In early 2007, EARSHOT signed with InDeGoot / Fontana/ Universal Recordings.

Led Zepplin Tribute:
In February 1995, ZOSO, The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience was brought together in Los Angeles, California. Bound and determined to create the most mesmerizing and accurate portrayal of the original band, each individual member was selected to portray both the image and playing styles of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones. Together the quartet pays homage with its powerful and unmistakable Zeppelin sound. Since its formation, ZOSO has kept up a rigorous schedule of dates in the Los Angeles area and throughout California and the Southwestern United States. Their outstanding reputation and following has won them an award from Rock City News (L.A.) as the best tribute act in California and has also kept the band in constant demand. Since its conception ZOSO has played a remarkable 1700 shows (and counting) in just under eleven years. Their passion, musical ability, showmanship and "we don't cancel" attitude has made them America's #1 certified Led Zeppelin show. If you missed Led Zeppelin live in the 70's or are looking for a great chance to relive the Music, Magic and Mystery of Zeppelin, you must experience ZOSO. The sound and visual effects will astound you and bring you back to the "Hammer of Gods" career (from 1968-1980).

Green Jelly
NAME

Rock/Novelty:
Green Jelly began life as Green Jello in 1981 in Kenmore, New York. The name was chosen due to the band's poor opinion of that flavor, and they decided that it also appropriately reflected the quality of their music. The band never attempted to be good, deciding instead to "disguise their lack of ability with stupid props," as their liner notes put it. The group appeared on The Gong Show touting themselves as the world's worst band, but the real turning point came when they met Gwar in 1988 and learned how to sculpt props and costumes with latex, papier-mache, chicken wire, and couch cushions. They attracted a small, curious following with their bizarre, cartoonish look and wound up signing with Zoo Records as a video-only band. They released a video album called Cereal Killer, using simple, bubblegum metal songs as an excuse to dance around in silly costumes, and the clay-animation video for "Three Little Pigs" became an MTV hit, spawning the release of an EP and later the full soundtrack to the video album. With success came lawsuits for trademark infringement; the band was forced to change their name to Green Jelly and also had to put an edited version of "Cereal Killer" on their audio release, as the cereal companies whose mascots were murdered in the video did not take kindly to it. Band members, who have exceeded 74 in number over the years, perform under aliases such as Marshall Staxx and Jesus Quisp.

Trouble Trouble

Hard Rock/Metal:No band deserves as much credit for keeping the gospel of classic Black Sabbath-derived heavy metal (not to mention bell-bottoms) alive during the '80s as Chicago's Trouble. And while the group's legend never exceeded cult status, their work would serve as inspiration for an entire generation of '90s bands in the thriving underground doom/stoner metal scene. Trouble was formed in 1979 by vocalist Eric Wagner, guitarists Bruce Franklin and Rick Wartell, bassist Sean McAllister, and drummer Jeff Olson. Drawing deeply from Black Sabbath for inspiration and the psychedelic sounds of the late '60s, the band forged an uncompromising brand of classic metal all their own, made more unique by their gloomy down-tuned riffs and spiritual, often openly religious lyrics, which quickly earned them the dubious "white metal" tag. The band toured throughout the Midwest during the early '80s before signing with Metal Blade Records and releasing their amazingly mature eponymous debut (later referred to as PSALM 9) in 1984. The equally impressive THE SKULL followed in 1985 and reflected singer Wagner's struggles with substance abuse as well as the growing turmoil within the group. A three year haitis followed. Just when it seemed that Trouble's fortunes had run out, the band was snapped up by Rick Rubin's visionary Def American Records for whom they recorded another self-titled album (TROUBLE) in 1990 with Rubin in the producer's chair. Encouraged by a euphoric response from the media, the revitalized group embarked on a year-long tour, expanded their fan base considerably, and returned to the studio with every intention of making their next album the one that would push them over the edge. Sure enough, 1992's stunning MANIC FRUSTRATION realized all their creative ambitions, delving even deeper into Beatlesque psychedelia and featuring some of Trouble's most aggressive, energetic performances ever. The band issued 1995's PLASTIC GREEN HEAD through the Music for Nations label. Eric Wagner would quit the band soon after (going on to form Lid) and though Trouble had been on hiatus ever since, rumors of an eventual re-formation persisted. On January 26th of 2002 the event that all Trouble fans worldwide had waited for finally happened. The band took the stage in Chicago to once again pound the planet with their particular brand of doom. It was announced that Kory Clarke of WARRIOR SOUL will be the new frontman. Trouble founder/guitarist Rick Wartell explains: "It was a mutual agreement, you need to follow your heart in this business and if you are not into it 100% then it is time to move on. We all felt it was the best thing for all parties involved. There are no hard feelings. I'm sure Eric (Wagner) will continue making music and we wish him the best." He went on to say, "We are very excited to have Kory step in and take over the vocals for Trouble. He's been one of my favorite frontmen in this industry for many years."

Faster Pussycat
Faster Pussycat

Rock / Hard Rock:
In 2001 Faster Pussycat reformed featuring original members Taime Downe (vocals), Brent Muscat (guitar), Greg Steele (guitar); alongside Taime's former Newlydeads bandmates Xristian Simon (guitar), Danny Nordahl (bass), and Chad Stewart (drums). Danny Nordahl had also played in The Throbs, and Danny Nordahl and Chad Stewart both also play in Motochrist. A remix compilation Between the Valley of the Ultra Pussy was released the same year by the band, featuring industrial rock remixes of their classic tracks, along with a bonus cover of KISS' "I Was Made For Loving You". This divided fans as many of the band's older fanbase who enjoyed standard hard rock, were not familiar with industrial rock. Steele would leave the band half-way through the band's 2001 tour with Poison and Cinderella. Tracii Guns filled in as guitarist for the rest of the tour, but once the remaining dates were completed, Faster Pussycat continued as a five piece. After Brent was unable to tour in 2005 having been diagnosed with throat cancer, Eric Griffin from Murderdolls filled in as the guitarist for their United States tour.

L. A. Guns

Rock / Hard Rock:
L.A. Guns started in 1982 as a straightup dirty rock n roll band. The band was put together by Tracii Guns in his last year of high school. The band has had some noteable members such as Axl Rose, Phillip Lewis and Jizzy Pearl, but continues today with band members Marty Casey (the Singer) Jeremy Guns (the Bass Player) Chad Stewart (the Drummer), and of course Tracii Guns (the Guitarist) and Big Al (The other Guitarist). L.A. Guns has been a work in progress without an end in sight, continually touring and of course writing and recording a huge variety of rock n roll sounds. Some people believe that L.A. GUNS may be the last true rock n roll band that hasn’t had to rely on outside writers or the help or corporate funding to have continued success.

The Inner Party System The Inner Party System The Medic Droid The Medic Droid The White Tie Affair The Inner Party System
Rock / Post grunge:
Kill Hannah was essentially vocalist/guitarist Mat Devine's dorm room four-track baby until a move to Chicago in 1995. After recruiting a few supporting players, Devine and Kill Hannah debuted the sound — a glitzy mix of gothic tendencies and fashionably crunchy modern rock. Steady local gigs followed, as did a series of self-released EPs and a couple of albums (1997's Here Are the Young Moderns, 1999's American Jet Set). Devine finally found a lineup that stuck as his band's dogged, sometimes thankless tour of duty on the Chicago music scene dragged into the new millennium. With guitarists Dan Wiese and Jonathan Radtke, bassist Greg Corner, and drummer Garrett Hammond along for the ride, Kill Hannah continued to build a buzz locally while showcasing for majors frequently. The hard work finally paid off in late 2002, when Devine and the band signed with Atlantic. For Never & Ever appeared in October 2003; in addition to new material, it featured a few retooled versions of older songs. Kill Hannah toured in support of the album through year's end, returning to the studio later to complete their next record, 2006's Until There's Nothing Left of Us.

Peter Murphy

Alternative Rock / Gothic: Despite having a successful solo career as a cult artist, vocalist Peter Murphy remains best known as the lead vocalist for Bauhaus, the pioneering post-punk goth rock band of the early '80s. After disbanding Bauhaus in 1983, Murphy formed Dali's Car with former Japan member Mick Karn. Dali's Car only released one album, The Waking Hour, in 1984. Following its release, the duo broke up and Murphy hesitatingly began a solo career with a cover of Magazine's "The Light Pours Out of Me," which was featured on a 1985 Beggars Banquet compilation called The State of Things. In 1986, he released his first full-fledged solo album, Should the World Fail to Fall Apart, which featured a number of guest artists, including former Bauhaus member Daniel Ash. Two years later, Murphy released his second solo album, Love Hysteria. With 1990's Deep, Murphy had a surprise hit — the first single from the record, the Bowie-esque "Cuts You Up," became the American modern rock hit of the year, spending seven weeks at the top of the U.S. charts and crossing over to AOR radio and the pop charts, where it peaked at number 55. Following its success, Deep reached number 44 on the album charts. His next album, 1992's Holy Smoke, had the number two modern rock hit "The Sweetest Drop." While touring with a reunited Bauhaus in 1998, he recorded the solo EP Recall. The new millennium, however, saw a newly charged Murphy. Without a deal, he took to the road in support of the greatest-hits retrospective Wild Birds 1985-1995: The Best of the Beggars Banquet Years for two tours of the U.S. during spring and fall 2000. The latter tour, which was more acoustically based, showcased some new material and rare favorites. Still a cult mainstay with American fans, Murphy issued the live double-disc Aliv
